This book examines the ways in which biopolitics and neoliberalism have shaped American popular music, with a particular focus on the ways in which these forces have been expressed through the music of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Lady Gaga. Biopolitics is a term used to describe the ways in which power is exercised over life itself, and neoliberalism is a term used to describe the economic and political policies that have come to dominate the global economy since the 1970s. These two forces have had a profound impact on American popular music, and this book explores the ways in which they have been expressed through the music of these three iconic artists.

Chapter 1: Bruce Springsteen and the Biopolitics of the American Dream

Bruce Springsteen is one of the most iconic figures in American popular music, and his music has been praised for its insights into the American experience. In this chapter, I argue that Springsteen's music is a powerful expression of the biopolitics of the American Dream. The American Dream is the idea that anyone can achieve success if they work hard and are willing to take risks. However, this dream has been increasingly difficult to achieve in recent decades, due to the rise of neoliberalism and the decline of the manufacturing sector. Springsteen's music captures the struggles of ordinary Americans who are trying to live up to the American Dream, and it offers a powerful critique of the forces that are making it increasingly difficult to do so.

Chapter 2: Bob Dylan and the Neoliberalization of the Music Industry

Bob Dylan is another iconic figure in American popular music, and his music has been praised for its poetic lyrics and its insights into the human condition. In this chapter, I argue that Dylan's music is a powerful expression of the neoliberalization of the music industry. The neoliberalization of the music industry has led to a decline in the power of record labels and an increase in the power of individual artists. This has had a profound impact on the way that music is created, distributed, and consumed. Dylan's music reflects the challenges and opportunities that artists face in the neoliberal music industry, and it offers a powerful critique of the ways in which neoliberalism has shaped the music industry.

Chapter 3: Lady Gaga and the Biopolitics of Celebrity

Lady Gaga is one of the most successful pop stars in the world, and her music has been praised for its catchy melodies and its provocative lyrics. In this chapter, I argue that Lady Gaga's music is a powerful expression of the biopolitics of celebrity. Celebrity culture is a relatively new phenomenon, and it has been shaped by the rise of social media and the 24-hour news cycle. Lady Gaga's music reflects the challenges and opportunities that celebrities face in the 21st century, and it offers a powerful critique of the ways in which celebrity culture has been shaped by biopolitics and neoliberalism.

This book has examined the ways in which biopolitics and neoliberalism have shaped American popular music, with a particular focus on the ways in which these forces have been expressed through the music of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Lady Gaga. These three artists have all produced powerful and thought-provoking music that reflects the challenges and opportunities of life in the 21st century. Their music offers a powerful critique of the ways in which biopolitics and neoliberalism have shaped our world, and it offers a vision of a more just and equitable future.
