Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 300 yards)
  • Knitting needles size US 8 (5 mm)
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • CO - cast on
  • K - knit
  • P - purl
  • RS - right side
  • WS - wrong side
  • st(s) - stitch(es)
  • rep - repeat

Instructions

Cast on and knit the body

  1. CO 90 sts.
  2. Row 1: K all sts.
  3. Row 2: P all sts.
  4. Rep Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 5 inches from the CO edge.

Divide for the sleeves

  1. Divide the sts into 3 sections: 30 sts for the left sleeve, 30 sts for the body, and 30 sts for the right sleeve.
  2. Place the sts for the left sleeve on a holder.
  3. Place the sts for the right sleeve on a holder.

Knit the body

  1. K across the 30 sts for the body.
  2. K until the piece measures 10 inches from the CO edge.
  3. Bind off all sts.

Knit the sleeves

  1. Take the sts for the left sleeve off the holder.
  2. K in the round until the sleeve measures 6 inches from the CO edge.
  3. Bind off all sts.
  4. Repeat for the right sleeve.

Assemble the sweater

  1. Sew the shoulders together.
  2. Sew the sleeves to the body.
  3. Weave in any loose ends.

Finishing

Once the sweater is complete, you can finish it off by blocking it. This will help to set the stitches and give the sweater a more polished look. To block the sweater, lay it flat on a towel and gently stretch it to the desired size. Allow the sweater to dry completely before wearing it.
