Ernst Jünger's Storm of Steel is a unique and harrowing memoir of World War I. First published in 1920, the book has been praised for its unflinching honesty and its vivid descriptions of trench warfare. Jünger's writing is both lyrical and brutal, and he does not shy away from the horrors of war.

Jünger was a young German officer when the war broke out in 1914. He served on the Western Front for four years, and he was wounded several times. In Storm of Steel, he recounts his experiences in the trenches, from the initial excitement of battle to the numbing routine of daily life. He also describes the horrors of war, including the death of his comrades and the destruction of his country.
