By John Smith

In 2010, I was arrested in Pakistan and charged with espionage. I was held in prison for two years without being charged or given a trial. My wife, Caitlan Coleman, was also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting espionage. She was held for six months.

Our arrest and imprisonment sparked a diplomatic crisis between the United States and Pakistan. The US government demanded our release, while the Pakistani government refused. The crisis eventually led to the resignation of Pakistan's foreign minister.

In this book, I tell the story of our ordeal. I describe the conditions in which we were held, the interrogations we endured, and the diplomatic efforts that were made to secure our release.

I also explore the complex relationship between the United States and Pakistan. I argue that the crisis over our imprisonment was a symptom of the deep mistrust that exists between the two countries.

I hope that this book will shed light on the plight of other Americans who have been wrongfully imprisoned abroad. I also hope that it will contribute to a better understanding of the challenges of US-Pakistan relations.
